Matawan NJ is located in Monmouth County and was settled in the 1680’s and boasts of a rich history that dates back to before the Revolutionary War. It was home to many nationally known figures such as Philip Freneau. Colonel John Burrows played a significant role during the Revolutionary War when his Matawan home was ransacked by the British when they tried to capture him. Today that home is known as the Burrows Museum (located at 94 Main Street) and is next door to Matawan Station Apartments.
