Ocean County is the second largest county in New Jersey, containing 638 square miles of various municipalities and suburban style living along the coast of the Atlantic.
Ocean County has a rich history. For hundreds of years, the Lenni Lenape Indians were the first and only residents of the Ocean County area. That all changed in the 1600s when the European explorers stepped foot on the land. On Feb. 15, 1850, Ocean County was separated from Monmouth County area and officially came into being. Throughout the years Ocean County was a popular spot for commerce, farming and vacation-goers. Many of the rich and famous names of the past century had homes in Ocean County including John D. Rockefeller and George J. Gould.
